I’m Back From My Summer Tour!

27 07 2010

Back in NYC at last for some much needed R & R after criss-crossing the Eastern Seaboard all the way down to Tennessee, where rock & roll took it’s shape and the blues was born!  This experience has been nothing short of amazing (but also exhausting).  I had a blast playing in a different city each night and getting the chance to meet and chat with fans from all of over the country.  Touring with Josiah Leming and Todd Carey was also a major highlight, such great guys and incredible performers, it was a true honor.

I have to say, so many fans came out to support this tour, one packed house after another, it was amazing to see so many excited people in the crowd.  To everyone who made it out to a show, thank you for coming, I’m so glad I got to share the experience with you.  To those that weren’t able to make it out to a show on this tour, that’s ok, hopefully there will be more U.S. tour dates to come (wink, wink)!

In other exciting news, I’ll be heading across the Atlantic for 6 tour dates in Singapore starting September 21st and running until September 26th.   I’ll be playing at the soon to be legendary TAB music complex, the Bowery Ballroom of the East.  Playing host to both established international artists as well as local talent, TAB is the first live music venue of its kind in Singapore and possibly all of South East Asia.  This is sure to be another incredible experience, and I’ll make sure to keep you all posted!

In the mean time, check out the videos & photos below from the summer tour, I wanted to share my favorites from each city with you.

Dion Roy Is Going on Tour!

28 06 2010

That’s correct, your heard it right, I’m going on tour this summer!
I’ll be touring in support of  my latest EP, “The Nearest Light”, which was released on June 23 and reached #8 on the iTunes singer-songwriter music charts.  “The Nearest Light” is the follow up to my debut album “Gallery” which came out in 2009.  The new EP was produced by Scott Reiblig, known for his work with Weezer, Fall Out Boy, and Cobra Starship.

I’m super pumped for this summer tour.   I’ll be hitting the road with Josiah Leming who you might remember from American Idol, and Todd Carey.  The tour kicks off in Cleveland, OH on July 31st with the final date on August 17th in Nashville, TN.  Check out the tour flier below as well as the additional dates that have been added.  Hope to see you on tour!

Additional Tour Dates
August 6th- The Crossroads- Garwood, NJ
August 8th- World Cafe Live- Philadelphia, PA

Connecticut has been a very kind state to me this year. The past two weekends, I spent my time up there performing some shows and despite the cold weather, it was a good time! Below, I’ve posted all the TV performances and interviews, as well as some pics from our gigs, so you can feel like you got to attend our show even if you didn’t have the chance to. Don’t you just love the age of the Internet?

So, my first TV appearance in Connecticut was on FOX 61 on Friday, January 29th. Everyone in the studio was super warm and welcoming and I had a great time there. Luckily, I have videos of my appearance for all those who don’t live in CT! Check it out…

Here’s the performance:

And here’s my on-air interview:

The following night, I went on to play at Up or On the Rocks (with the ever-so-awesome, Addison Station), which was also in Hartford. It was a sick venue! Great space to play in, and I’m definitely pumped that we will be playing there again on Saturday, March 27th.

I guess you could say I loved Connecticut so much (or maybe state loved me? Eh? No takers?), that I returned back to the state the following weekend for a performance on ABC 8’s “Good Morning Connecticut Weekend” on Saturday, February 6 in New Haven. And it was once again, an awesome experience. Have no fear if you missed that because I also have the video of the appearance right below:

Later that night, we performed at Hanafins in New London, which is always fun. Stay tuned for some pictures…

I’m back in NYC/NJ for a few weeks now, which is a nice thing because I can take a breather! The next show is on February 19th in Garwood, NJ at Crossroads, so if you’re in the area, come by and celebrate my birthday!

Until next time…peace, love, and tacos,

2010 and why Dion Roy fans are the best since 2009. #taco

28 01 2010

As I hit the road to Hartford Connecticut and write this blog, (Pete’s driving, I’m not literally driving and writing a blog post, though that would be impressive wouldn’t it. Its not often that I get a sane minute to actually get my thoughts together, so here it goes.

First off, I want to thank so many of you for relentlessly spreading the word about “Dion Roy”, the man, the band, the taco stand. Its a crazy world this business of being a musician, and it doesn’t look like its going to be any less crazy in 2010 – but I can feel the stars aligning and I have no doubt this is going to be a big year, filled with music and good tidings. (Can you use tidings post December? Comment below) Point is – we are going to have some fun in 2010, I can feel it.

The second order of bidness I want to point out is that I’ve been working hard on a new EP whose album name has yet to be released pending a few things, but its coming out amazing. My new guitar player Pete, who is also an engineer has really been a help in getting the songs done, and for those of you who have seen me live, know he sings the best harmonies this side of Simon of Garfunkel. It looks like it will be short and sweet, so that we can take our sweet time with it and really make it amazing. It looks like we are going to have 5 songs this time around – all of which are going to knock your socks off. Doing an EP just seems to be the reasonable thing to do, as it costs quite a bit to record an album – and we don’t want to cut any corners, and we haven’t – so get excited – these are the best songs so far.

The next order of business, is similar to the first – and its being underscored because of how important it is. I want to take just a minute to appreciate a few very special twitter fans. The full list is happening, just not on this post. I’m sorry. The links will be added soon, but for now you will have to find them on your own.

@jacquiiiii – Without even knowing me well, offered to do the Merch table at the Ryan Cabrera show, and she pwned it. The typos is intentional. google it. Im a nerd. Thank you.
@taylor_blue – This lovely person has been pushing the music since she heard it. She has posted a link to my site on her celeb entertainment site tengossip.com and has sent countless fans to me.
@tc1jkfan – Watch out for this newcomer, she has taken over the Social Media world, you can’t get far without seeing her talk about the next Dion Roy show or the next Taco joke. She’s on like tron.
@willow_raine – Always chimes in with exactly the right thing to say. She has also sent countless new fans to the Dion Roy mailing list. A real beleiver. Thank you.
@hello_jodie – Jodie, not for the faint of heart, she will go there. If theres a line, she’ll cross it guaranteed. She keeps things interesting and is my favorite swooner.
@sassysam2121 – Dion Roy thongs, nuff said.
@superwoman357 – I think she has single handedly delivered my music to the entire state of Connecticut. Her cover of Wants It was just the icing on the cake.

This list is growing, and I really can’t wait to see what you guys have up your collective sleeves. Whatever it is it will be good.

Now its time to practice for the slew of shows and TV performances in the next couple weeks…. More to come…

New Dion Roy Facebook Group

13 03 2009

Hey guys –

As some of you may know I’ve been working pretty hard for the last year or so on my own album after playing for years as a bass player. Things have really begun moving pretty quickly, and the album should be done and available on iTunes in the next month or 2.

Also: stay tuned for a brand new DionRoy.com website!!

It would be great if you could join my new Facebook group, and I promise it won’t be one of those annoying groups you get an email a day from.

I’ll be announcing a few NJ shows in the coming weeks and I have a NYC show booked at the Red Lion for March 24th in the West Village.
As always, thanks for the support!

Catch me at the Red Lion in NYC on March 24, 2009!

New Songs – Mixed and Mastered on their way….thanks Brian Jackson

16 08 2008

To all 7 of my adoring fans, Im sorry that I haven’t updated this blog in quite awhile. I have been spending a ton of time working on Come Back Around, Reconsider, and a new Cure meets NIN song called “Know”.

IN addition, I’ve been playing the open mics ar ARCTICA every Wednesday, getting my live performance chops up, and drinking a lot of guiness in the process. A few of the videos are available at BAMBAMSLAM.com, (just search Dion Roy) an interesting site which runs mini contests for live performance among other thing, though its at times painfully slow.

Oddly enough Brian Bauers from my old band the WMDs is the open mic host. New York is getting smaller and smaller by the day, which is why you can’t get a decent apartment. (See Jason Misrahi on this blog, just search it.)

Brian Jackson has been Mixing and Mastering the last couple songs, and is an incredible teacher as well. You can see his new site at form8.com

Id love to hear feedback so – you can get a taste of the new songs at myspace.com/dionroymusic

Til next time!
