Smashing Pumpkins Back in the studio sans drummer

Music News: Smashing Pumpkins Back in the studio sans drummer

Billy Corgan declared Friday (March 20) that he is heading into the studio to record a new Smashing Pumpkins CD without any of his founding bandmates.

Jimmy Chamberlin, the group’s original drummer and the only original Pumpkin to play with on its recent 20th anniversary “reunion” tour, “has left the group” according to a sour statement released on the band’s website (http://www.smashingpumpkins.com).

The statement said, “The SMASHING PUMPKINS’ guitarist, singer, songwriter and original founding member Billy Corgan has declared that drummer Jimmy Chamberlin has left the band. Chamberlin joined the band Corgan founded in Chicago in 1988 and played on all their albums except Adore (1998). Corgan will continue to write and record as SMASHING PUMPKINS with plans to head into the studio this spring.”

The band showed signs of contension at its most recent shows, with Corgan brutally insulting the audience and individual fans from the stage. “Yes, the circus is back on the road,” Corgan told a crowd in New York in November. “Just when you thought drama was so ’90s.”

New Dion Roy Facebook Group

Hey guys –

As some of you may know I’ve been working pretty hard for the last year or so on my own album after playing for years as a bass player. Things have really begun moving pretty quickly, and the album should be done and available on iTunes in the next month or 2.

Also: stay tuned for a brand new DionRoy.com website!!

It would be great if you could join my new Facebook group, and I promise it won’t be one of those annoying groups you get an email a day from.

I’ll be announcing a few NJ shows in the coming weeks and I have a NYC show booked at the Red Lion for March 24th in the West Village.
As always, thanks for the support!

Catch me at the Red Lion in NYC on March 24, 2009!

Celebrities on Twitter

I just read an AP article on celebs who Twitter – one of the most popular ones being – surprisingly – an artist who has been out of the spotlight for years (MC Hammer).

I joined Twitter a few months ago (better late than never!) and I’ve got to agree that it’s a great tool for musicians to connect with their fans, and make new ones. It’s also a fantastic resource to get instant feedback on songs you’re working on – so I would definitely recommend that indie musicians get on Twitter and start making connections!
